Android 4.0 ICS Update For LG Optimus 2X Finally Rolled Out

LG was the company to launch world’s first Android-powered dual-core smartphone, the LG Optimus 2X which made it to Guinness Book of Records. In January 2011 LG Optimus 2X debuted on the South Korean market and later it was launched on other markets, as well. Now, the Android 4.0 ICS update for LG Optimus 2X has officially rolled out.

LG Optimus 2X was at that time the company’s flagship smartphone and the South Korean giant’s hopes were sky-high. Unfortunately, the sales were below expectations as Samsung’s Galaxy S2 flagship smartphone has shadowed the LG high-end device.

LG Optimus 2X has a IPS display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, dual-core 1 GHz Tegra 2 processor, 512 MB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage and microSD card slot that supports up to 32 GB of storage. It also comes with 8 megapixel camera and a 1,500 mAh battery. The device came pre-loaded with Android 2.2 Froy and it received Gingerbread 2.3, but with an enormous delay.

Android 4.0 ICS has debuted in late 211 on Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but LG needed more than a year to port it on its LG Optimus 2X.

The Android 4.0 ICS update for LG Optimus 2X can be installed using the PC suite, and not OTA, well, at least for now. For the time being only the unlocked LG Optimus 2X units can be upgraded to Android 4.0 ICS, and if you purchased a carrier-branded device you will still have to wait for the update.

You can figure it out yourself that the chances for LG Optimus 2X to receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean are zero, and that your only chance to get Jelly Bean on the device is to choose a custom ROM.
