The Sony Xperia Tablet S should have been updated this week to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. But, it seems that due to some errors and bugs that appeared in the latest testing phases of the firmware, Sony decided that it would be better for them to wait and postpone the official release date of Jelly Bean 4.1.2 OTA Update for the Xperia Tablet S.
There were numerous users who were eagerly awaiting the release of this new UI upgrade for their Sony tablets. Some problems with the ‘memory management’ appeared along with some random shutdowns and Wi-Fi connection bugs have forced Sony to delay the update.
Xperia blog states that that Sony “will be releasing Jelly Bean for the Xperia Tablet at the end of April 2013/ early May 2013”. Also, they said that there are no plans regarding the Sony Tablet S updating process and this means that the first generation tablet won’t be updated to Jelly Bean firmware.
The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OTA Update will bring the Google Now service, Project Butter, improved keyboard, offline searching and multiple other tweaks were added along with it. This version of Jelly Bean was announced in June 2012 at Google I/O and released officially for all devices in July 2012. Since then, 9 months have passed and Sony still struggles to release a fully working Android 4.1.2 JB build for their Sony Xperia Tablet S.
Let’s hope that Sony will keep their promise and update the Xperia Tablet S next month as there are many customers who love this particular device and don’t want to switch to other models such as the Galaxy Tab 2 or Nexus 7 /10.
