Android 4.1.2 OTA Update firmware version 10.1.1.A.1.253 is now available for Sony Xperia ZL

Sony has started to release a new OTA Update for the Sony Xperia ZL. This update will take your device to the latest build of Android 4.1.2 JB and, note that it has been rolled out only for the device with the model number C6506, that is running on stock firmware.

Check the notifications panel or the System Updates menu to find the latest build of the Xperia ZL Jelly Bean operating system.

The new Jelly Bean OTA Update for your device comes with several tweaks done to the phone’s battery life, software functions and user experience. Sony released this update previously only with their desktop program and now it seems like multiple devices begun to receive the official firmware files for 10.1.1.A.1.253 Jelly Bean 4.1.2 version.

This update measures only 66.1 MB in size and the download shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to complete. After you download the firmware OTA Update files, you will simply need to press the Install button and then, your Sony Xperia ZL will take care of the rest and flash the required files.

There aren’t any UI changes, as you will only see an improvement in terms of battery life and better app functionality. Your device stays on Android 4.1.2 JB until Sony decides to build the Android 4.2.2 JB for Xperia ZL. The status and navigation bar changed color from black to grey, while the Camera functions have been tweaked and the phone should be running much more smoother than before.

This OTA Update should be pushed only for the factory-unlocked devices. To upgrade, go through Settings, then open About phone, tap Software Updates and, finally, use the System Updates section to check for any new firmware files. The news has been confirmed by¬†Sony Mobile’s web site which lists the latest firmware version number available for the Sony Xperia ZL.
