Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update For Samsung Galaxy S3 To Arrive In Canada On December 3rd

Samsung Galaxy S3 is by far the most popular Android-powered smartphone so far, and the South Korea-based company reported that over 30 million units were already shipped. Even though many of the Samsung Galaxy S3 owners already updated their smartphones to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the Canadian customers are still waiting for the firmware update to roll out.

We have good news for you, as Samsung Mobile Canada announced on its official Twitter account that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S3 will hit the North American country on December 3rd.

As you probably know the international Samsung Galaxy S3 is always in the first wave of Android updates, but here we are talking about terminals purchased from the Canadian carriers. The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S3 will probably roll out gradually an we expect Rogers and Telus to lead the way, but the update might have already hit certain owners.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S3 brings new features like Project Butter, a new camera and gallery app, Google Now, an enhanced notifications area, and other performance improvements and bug fixes.

As you probably know, Samsung Galaxy S3 boasts a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED with HD display resolution and Gorilla Glass 2 protection, a Snapdragon S4 chipset with dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU and Adreno 320 GPU, 2 GB of RAM and 16/32/64 GB of internal storage.

Even though Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S3 as a quad-core device, the LTE limitations of the Exynos 4 Quad chipset forced the South Korea-based company to choose a dual-core processing unit compatible with the LTE networks in North America.

Besides the technical specifications mentioned above, Samsung Galaxy S3 also comes with a 2,100 mAh battery, front-facing 1.9 megapixel camera with HD video recording support, and a primary 8 megapixel sensor mounted on the back with autofocus, LED flash, face and smile detection, panorama and support for full HD video recording.

You can also manually check whether the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S3 has arrived on your device by going to Settings > About device >  Software Update > Update. If you are reading this from Canada, please let us know whether the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware update has rolled out for your Samsung Galaxy S3.

Mine first says downloading via mobile networks may incur additional charges. If possible, download via WiFi network. How does one do that? Sorry, I’m new to this.

    • It can incur additional charges if you go past your carrier’s data limit. To download via WiFi, connect to a WiFi network.
