The JWR66Y Security update firmware will be released later today for HTC One Google Play Edition smartphones. Keep an eye on your smartphone’s notification panel to be the one of the first users to update their smartphone with the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean build.
After you apply the Android 4.3 JWR66Y on your HTC One GPe, the device will run the same firmware that is currently on the Nexus smartphones and tablets. Those devices got the update several weeks ago and it mostly consists of security patches. It measures only a couple of MB and it should be downloaded and installed in under two minutes.
The build number of your HTC One Google Play Edition build number will be changed to JWR66Y.H1 along with the kernel version. No major changes will be added by this update. However, your device will have its security improved making it safe against various online threats. If you own a rooted HTC One GP phone, then you should know that you will receive the update but it won’t stick after completing the installation. For your device to be updated successfully, it shouldn’t be rooted and running full stock Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
The HTC One GP edition was launched weeks ago and it came with AOSP Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware. There is no official word on its future update to Android 4.3 but soon we should be hearing from Google / HTC and, hopefully, we will get the next Jelly Bean by the end of this year.
Tell us in comments if you already got the Android 4.3 JWR66Y firmware update notification on your HTC One Google Play edition.
