Android 4.4.2 KOT49H OTA Update Now Live for Google Nexus 4, 5, 7 and 10, Official OTA Zip Download Links Included

Android 4.4.2 KitKat KTO49H OTA Update Available Now for Nexus 4, 5, 7 and 10

Last week Google started to roll out the official Android 4.4.1 OTA Update, but not all devices got the new files, as numerous users were still waiting on the latest firmware version. However, it seems like Google has decided to upgrade all of their Nexus devices directly with Android 4.4.2 KOT49H KitKat build.

This update comes unexpected, as everyone was just waiting on getting their KitKat 4.4.1 fix and not a brand new firmware build. The new Android 4.4.2 OTA Update brings tweaks and stability improvements for the overall UI.

Check your Nexus 4, 5, 7 and 10 notification panel and the System Updates section to find out if your device can be upgraded to the latest KitKat firmware version. All these Nexus devices will be updated starting today and you shouldn’t worry if the files aren’t available today for you, as Google usually releases these updates in stages.

There is no official word on why Google skipped Android 4.4.1 and released Android 4.4.2 straight to Android 4.4 devices, but that might be only explained if there was a bug in it. If you upgrade directly from Android 4.4 to Android 4.4.2 then the download size will be somewhere around 50MB, while the users on Android 4.4.1 will only need to download a 2MB file.

The Google Nexus 5 users that didn’t update to KitKat 4.4.1 will still get all camera enhancements and bug fixes even if they update straight from Android 4.4 to Android 4.4.2.

Did you get the update? If you didn’t then you can use the OTA zip files below and manually push them to your Nexus devices using ‘adb sideload’.

  • In case you decide to follow the guide, then you need to make sure that you download the corresponding file for your Android device and for its firmware version, as otherwise the update will fail.
  • Devices that are running a custom Recovery can be updated easily by copying the Android 4.4.2 OTA zip file to internal storage and then flashing the file just like you would with a custom ROM zip.
  • Phones that are on stock Recovery should use the ‘adb sideload’ commands.
