Android 4.4.2 OTA Update for Xperia Z Ultra GPE Rolling out

Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition Android 4.4.2 update

Google is very buys lately updating the Google Play Edition devices to the latest KitKat version. After the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, and LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition received the Android 4.4.2 update over the past few days, now it’s time for the recently-announced Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition to get the new software update.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition Android 4.4.2 KOT49H KitKat update is being rolled out OTA and it is sized 444 MB, therefore it’s recommended to download it using a stable WiFi connection. Anyway, since we are talking about a staged roll out, you might not be able to download and install it right away. If the system update notification didn’t pop up yet on your Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition, you can also perform a manual check in Settings > About phone > System updates > Check now.

If the manual check still doesn’t bring the Android 4.4.2 KOT49H update on your Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition you can grab the OTA update ZIP file from Google’s server and push it to your device using either adb sideload command or a custom recovery. It’s also worth mentioning that the Android 4.4.2 update will revoke root access on your Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition, but you will be able to easily re-root your device by simply flashing the latest Super SU version.

Even though there is no official change log for the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition Android 4.4.2 KitKat KOT49H OTA update, it was reported that the new firmware comes to address the bugs that were affecting the handset, including the security settings crash, inability to uninstall apps, the Google Now voice commands problems, and clearing app data issues.

If you happen to have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition next to you, you should keep on eyes on the notification area as the Android 4.4.2 update might have already popped up.
