The International model of the Samsung Galaxy S4 – version number i9295 – can now be officially updated to Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware as the OTA release has been finally rolled out. For now the update is being available in Netherlands, but other markets will provide the software soon (during the following days to be more precise).
This release is coming a month later than the AT&T Galaxy S4 Active KitKat roll out, so things are moving fast for Samsung. As you know, the S4 Active represents the water prof version of the classic S4, the device being quite popular among worldwide Android users, which means that the KitKat firmware was highly expected by everyone.
So, if you haven’t rooted or updated your smartphone with a custom ROM (if you have, then you will need to manually flash the software as the OTA will not be received), now you can easily install the stock Android 4.4.2 OS on your International model of Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. The KitKat firmware is dubbed as XXUCNE5 and comes with important features (such as faster performance, white status bar icons, improved battery life, full-screen album art, camera shortcut on the lock screen, wireless printing support and lot more), apps and capabilities – this is a major OS improvement.
The XXUCNE5 Android 4.4.2 OS has been officially rolled out in Netherlands so the International model of Samsung Galaxy S4 Active will receive the mentioned update gradually or in phases. Due to same reasons, you might want to flash the software manually. In that matter you will have to download the XXUCNE5 OS and use Odin in order to apply the ROM, or Samsung KIES. Don’t worry as we will develop a dedicated tutorial soon, so stay close.
That’s all for now; don’t forget to share your impressions with us by using the comments field from below and check to see if the KitKat update has been made available for your International Galaxy S4 Active or not (just head towards “menu – settings – about phone – software update” – make sure you are using a WiFi connection when downloading the firmware though).
