Android 4.4 KitKat has been recently released and every phone owner wants it on his device. Unfortunately not all makers are going to update their smartphones, but thanks to the CyanogenMod team, we now have the update for Sony Xperia Z, Xperia T and Xperia V.
The CM11 Android 4.4 KitKat is now available for the Xperia Z, Xperia T, Xperia V, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z thanks to the FreeXperia team, which is part of CyanogenMod Xperia Maintainers. It’s an unofficial build for the moment, but worth giving it a try if you want to taste Google’s new KitKat.
CM11 is still under development and the CyanogenTeam doesn’t offer release dates, unfortunately, so you will have to stick with the unofficial builds for the moment. In the following days we’ll write guides for you to upgrade your smartphone to the new CM11, so we recommend you to wait until then to make sure you don’t do anything wrong and brick your device.
You should know that CyanogenMod is based on vanilla Android and it doesn’t come with any features created by Sony and neither Sony’s custom UI. Unofficial builds are also known to be very unstable and their main goal is to test it in order to improve it further until CM11 reaches the stable stage. The CyanogenMod team doesn’t recommend using unofficial or nightly builds for smartphones you use day by day, though you can do it if you can live with the bugs they come with.
We’ve already started flashing CM11 on our devices and if everything go well, we’ll let you know how it works and how you can do it yourself. Our guides are always risk-free and very easy to follow, offering you all the details that come with a ROM flash.
The build is also in the works for Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra and we’ll let you know when it’s released, though those smartphones should receive an official Android 4.4 KitKat update soon, being the maker’s latest high-end devices.
