Android 4.4 KitKat Factory Image for Google Nexus 4, 7 and 10 Now Available for Download
UPDATE: Google has released a new Factory Image version, the Android 4.4 KRT16S.
Google has launched officially the Android 4.4 KitKat with the Google Nexus 5 smartphone. At the moment, the other Nexus devices such as Nexus 4, 7 and 10, are still waiting for the official OTA Update to be pushed out. However, until then, Google made available for download all Android 4.4 KRT16O Factory Image and Driver files for those models.
Until the official Android 4.4 KitKat OTA Update is released to your phone, you can use the stock Factory Image of KitKat KRT16O files in order to get your device to the latest operating system. Note that such process will potentially wipe all data from your device and you should only update your device in case you know what you’re doing.
The Android 4.4 KK Factory Image files can also be used by custom ROM developers to release such custom KitKat builds for Nexus 4, Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 devices. In case your device has a locked bootloader, then the installation of Android 4.4 KRT16O Factory Image will wipe all data from your device.
If your Nexus device has an unlocked bootloader, then you will be able to flash the factory image without wiping data files. But, note that in case you skip the data wipe, then your phone might not boot in normal mode and you will still be forced to factory reset the device. That us why the installation of Factory Images on Nexus devices has to be applied by advanced Android users.
The Android 4.4 KitKat KRT16O Factory Image files for Google Nexus devices can be found here. You’ll find the files for Google Nexus 4, Nexus 7 2012, Nexus 7 2013 and Nexus 10. Also, the Nexus 5 KitKat factory image is listed as well.
