Android 4.4 KitKat Now Available for Sony Xperia SP Through Unofficial CM11 Port

Update Sprint CDMA Galaxy Note 2 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat VPUCNE2 Firmware

It’s not clear yet whether the folks at Sony will release the Android 4.4 update for Xperia SP, but if you are tired of waiting you can get all the KitKat goodies and more via the unofficial CM11 port that was made available for the device.

If you happen to own a Sony Xperia SP C5303 or C5306 you will be able to install the Android 4.4-based CyanogenMod 11 ROM ROM on your handset. The custom ROM was ported to the Sony handset by XDA recognised developer, FXP. Even though it’s not an official release, the users who already installed it on their phones report that it’s highly-stable.

Besides bringing stock Android interface on your smartphone, CM11 is also coming with some useful custom features like Profile,s enhanced Privacy Settings, or allowing the user to choose what toggles to appear in Quick Settings or to customize the status bar icons. Of course, you will also get all the KitKat-specific goodies like transparent status bar, white status bar icons, full screen album art in the lock screen, cloud printing, or emoji support.

If you aren’t new to the custom ROMs world, you probably know that you will first need to root your Xperia SP and that the phone’s warranty will be voided. You know the drill: download CM11 ZIP for Xperia SP here (make sure you’re downloading FXP303-cm-11-20140120-UNOFFICIAL-huashan.zip file) and Android 4.4 Gapps here, copy the ZIP files on your phone’s SD card, reboot in recovery mode, then use CWM to flash CM11 and Gapps. Wipe data, wait until the phone boots and now you should be running Android 4.4 on your Xperia SP.

If you have no idea what you’re doing please check this XDA Developers thread for more information. Furthermore, we are reminding you that we are not responsible for any damage you do to your phone during or after the custom ROM installation.
