AT&T is now rolling out the Android 4.4.2 OTA update for Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, letting the users of the rugged smartphone get a taste of KitKat goodness.
The US carrier officially announced on its blog that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Android 4.4.2 update is now being pushed to users, so if you happen to own the AT&T variant of the smartphone you should keep an eye on the notification area. As you may know, a system update message will pop out as soon your device becomes eligible to receive the new firmware and all you need to do is tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions.
In case the system update notification haven’t appeared, you should also perform a manual check by going to Settings > More > About Phone > Software update > Check for updates. As usual, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA update for AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Active will be rolled out in phases, meaning that some of you might not be able to update it right away. Checking for the new update via Samsung Kies won’t hurt either.
According to AT&T the new software brings KitKat-specific interface updates like re-styled status and navigation bars, full screen immersive mode, or full screen album art in the lockscreen, along with cloud printing, improved phone dialer app, color emoji support, stronger security, and smarter power use.
After you update your device you should also notice that the camera can now be accessed directly from the lockscreen, the new Location menu, improved Samsung Keyboard, enhanced focus and exposure, and the updated Gallery app.
Depending on the Android version you’re currently running on your Galaxy S4 Active, the size of the Android 4.4.2 update file may vary between 447MB – 877MB, therefore you’ll only be able to download it using WiFi. It’s also worth noting that the new firmware is labeled KOT49H.I537UCUCNC2 . AT&T recommends to charge your phone’s battery to at least 50% before beginning the update process.
