Best Android Games Launched in 2013

This post gathers some of the best video games launched in 2013 for Android smartphones and tablets. You’ll find both free and paid titles along with important info about all the latest video games that you can test on your device.

Make sure that in case you decide to install one of the listed titles you are using a Wi-Fi network, as some downloads are over 100 MB reaching over 1GB in size. Also, some video games won’t work with all Android devices or Android versions.

In case you think that our list is missing some important title, then you should tell us in comments why you think that it needs to be added in this article. Note that there is no specific order set so you shouldn’t think of this article as a ‘top 10 Android video games’.

Dungeon Hunter 4:

This hack’n’slash fantasy RPG is one of the best games launched this year and it is the fourth installment in the Dungeon Hunter for Android video game series. If you’re a fan of Diablo-like games, then this games offers tons of fun and a great story line that should makes the time fly.

This video game has been created by Gameloft and released earlier this year and since then it holds a 4.4 rating on Google’s Play Store from over 180,000 voters. Choose from four different warriors, each equipped with a different set of skills and styles. An upgrade system for battle skills, customize and create your own gear along so that you’ll be able to defeat all enemies and bosses easier.

The loot system is great and the game is free buy you can also pay for better weapons and skills, so that you’ll progress faster between levels.

There is also a co-op multiplayer mode that allows you to partner with your friends and defeat enemies together in Team Deathmatch combats or even use the PVP mode to fight them.

Note that this games requires you to run Android 2.3 and later OS edition on your smartphone. Note that the download size measures over 900MB and it would be best for you to connect via Wi-Fi.

Deer Hunter 2014:

Glu Mobile has launched the free Deer Hunter 2014 video game that takes you to the world’s most beautiful hunting grounds. You can play this games and virtually hunt numerous exotic animals all over the world.

This is a a first person shooting simulator in the series that supports co-op multiplayer allowing you to complete challenges with your friends. Teamwork is very important but you can also play by yourself and hunt over 100 different animal species. Beware of all the active predators such as wolves, bears or cheetahs. The first stage takes to North America where you need to hunt a deer, but from then on you will begin to discover all the other rifles and use different tactics to force hunted animals to get out of their hideouts and trap them.

Collect trophies and connect your Google Account with the Play store so that you’ll unlock achievements and top the world’s leaderboards.

This is a free video game but you can also use real money and purchase extra rifles and such using the in-app purchase system.

Deer Hunter 2014 works with all Android devices running Android 2.1 and later. The download size is 36MB and the overall Google Play rating is set at 4.6 from almost 200,000 voters.

Temple Run 2:

Every Android user has heard of this game, as its predecessor is one of the most addictive Android video games and the new version continues its tradition. There are tons of new things and a vastly improved gameplay that contains new challenges, objectives and ‘runners’ or avatars for you to choose from.

The first Temple Run game was download over 150 million times, the 2nd installment in the series still has a long road ahead of it until it reaches such numbers. It was launched in January 2013 for Android 2.1 and later smartphones. It packs a brand graphics engine, better and beautiful environments, new obstacles, powerups, new achievements, added new powers for each running avatar etc.

Another great thing that you’ll find in Temple Run 2 is the fact that you can play as Usain Bolt, the fastest man on Earth with a whooping 100m world record set at 9:58 seconds. For you to play with Bolt you need to pay using the in-game purchase button.

This game is free to play and it features Google Play rating of 4.6 from over 750,000 voters worldwide.

Google Play Game Services has also been added to Temple Run 2 with the latest update and you can use it to see if you’re better than your friends.

FIFA 14 for Android:

This is the mobile version of FIFA 14, one of the most popular football (soccer) simulators currently available. It has been released by EA Sports and if you’re a soccer enthusiast then this video game is great, as you will end up spending hours with the Ultimate Team feature playing your way through low divisions and reaching the heights of the premier divisions while constantly trading players and tweaking tactics.

I think that this installment of FIFA 14 for Android is the first one to truly catch the spirit of the console versions. It fully packed with new features and game modes, but the best thing about it is the fact that it is free to play. There are three different modes that you can unlock by purchasing them, but you’ll do that only if you’re bored with the other aspects of this video game.

FIFA 14 has already been downloaded by millions of users worldwide and the number continues to grow. The Google Play rating is currently at 4.5 with votes from over 250,000 players.

CSR Racing:

Natural Motion Games are the ones responsible for a truly amazing Android racing simulator. The best thing about this game is the Online Multiplayer mode that allows you to to compete against the best virtual racers in the world.

It features real cars and some great cities were you can drag race and earn experience points in order to improve your cars. You can add turbos, nitrous injection and tweak important parts of your car so that you’ll become better and better with every race you complete. The licensed cars that you’ll find in CSR Racing:  BMW, Audi, Dodge, McLaren, Mini, Mercedes, Bentley, Checvolet, GM, Pagani, Nissan and many more.

Its graphics engine is great and you should be impressed with all the things that you can customize after starting your career as an underground virtual race driver.

Asphalt 8 Airborne:

Another racing simulator has made our article. This is the latest version and the eight Asphalt video game in the series.

Airborne video game tells you to ‘leave gravity in the dust’ as Gameloft, the team behind it, has added dynamic and high speed aerial stunts thanks to a new physics and graphics engine. You can choose from over 47 state-of-the-art racing cars including Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari FXX, Lamborghini Veneno and others more.

With Asphalt 8 Airborne you can make barrel rolls, crazy jumps, control the car while is in the air in order to pull stunts during the race. There are nine different circuits available like French Guiana, Venice, the Nevada Desert and more. All tracks can be played in Career Mode and most of them feature hidden shortcuts that you need to discover by yourself in order to beat your opponents.

The Career Mode of Asphalt 8 Airboner will span over eight seasons and you will be able to participate in over 180 different racing events. Two new modes have added in this game, the Infected and Drift Gate modes.

The multiplayer modes offer you the possibility to race against other seven real virtual drivers and friends. Compare your best scores with the ones that your friends have set before and try to become the best Asphalt 8 driver.

Pixel Dungeon:

If you’re tired of all the above high-end graphics video games and you love to fight bosses and other monsters, then the Pixel Dungeon for Android title is the one you should try.

This is a beta version but it doesn’t lack any major features and there are no bugs that would ruin your game. You need to explore the world of Pixel Dungeon while fighting monsters and collecting different items in order to find the Amulet of Yendor, which is when you will complete this video game. I didn’t manage to get that far, but this game offers tons of fun.

It works with all smartphones and tablets running Android 2.2 and later versions.

Pixel Dungeon is currently rated with a score of 4.7 from more than 7,000 voters and, it measure only 2.2 MB, so it should be fine to download it using your mobile data.

Angry Birds Star Wars 2:

Rovio has done it again, the latest installment in Angry Birds video game series adds a whole new dimension as you are now able to destroy the Pork Federation or, you can also side with the pigs and ‘join the pork side’ and defeat the angry birds. You can choose to play as Darth Maul, Emperor Palpatine, General Grievous, Yoda, Anakin, Jango Fett, Mace Windu and more.

There are over 30+ new characters and as you progress through the story you will be able to become a Sith Master or a Jedi. There are tons of achievements that you can unlock and hidden levels that will all result in a bonus reward chapter.

Note that this video game feature in-game purchases. It is available for both Android smartphones and tablets running at least on Android 2.3.
