Now that the Android 4.4 KitKat is officially official, some the custom ROM developers have already started work on their new projects. The folks at CyanogenMod have already kicked off the CM 11 work (based on Android 4.4 KitKat), thus we could see the first builds in the following weeks.
CyanogenMod team announced via Google+ that some of the CM 10 features “survived the jump [from Android 4.3 to Android 4.4 KitKat], while a handful didn’t.” Anyway, the team didn’t reveal the release date of CM 11.
Using Google’s social network, the CyanogenMod team also posted the repo init URL, thus if you are skilled with Android customizations you can already toy with it.
For the time being, the Nexus 5 is the only smartphone that runs Android 4.4 KitKat officially, but, courtesy of custom ROM developers, the new Android version has been ported to various devices like Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 7 2013, HTC One, or Xperia Z.
That’s it for now regarding CM 11, but we promise to return with more details as soon as they are made available.
