CM team continues to surprise everyone with these announcements, as they will launch a new Android Camera application called Focal. This project was previously codenamed Nemesis and it comes as an alternative for all the other stock and custom Camera apps that are currently used on Android devices.
This is great news for users who are currently running CyanogenMod ROMs because soon the Nightly and all the other CM builds will feature the Focal camera application as default. The new picture-taking tool will feature tons of features like the PicSphere, Photo, Panorama, Video and a button that you can use to switch between read and front camera faster. There are tons of other small features. With this release, all that it lacks from CM team is a smartphone to incorporate all their work: CM 10.1 based on Android 4.2.2, soon to support Android 4.3, CM File Manager, Apollo music player and all others.
Focal, is now an open source CM project which was codenamed Nemesis. It features 4 major modes that you can use. The Photo mode does exactly what it says, Panorama for creating panoramas, Video and PicSphere which is an alternative to Photosphere from Google and LG’s VR Panorama.
Another great thing about the Focal app from CM is that it contains some new icons that are called widgets. You can slide them out from the edge and you will get Flash Mode, White Balance, Scene Mode, HDR, Color effects, exposure compensation, color enhancements, ISO sensitivity, Burst mode, time mode and the settings button. Simply tap the widget for it to expand and tap it again to hide it after you’re done with it. Use the Settings menu to disable some of the widgets that you don’t use wish to use and these won’t be shown by the Focal interface.
CyanogenMod team says that the Focal camera app should be added to their soon, as there isn’t any ETA set at the moment. However, it should be ready for a release soon and it will most probably be added to CM 10.1.x / CM 10.2 Nightlies builds.
