Rumor has it that, besides Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, the errrr, mini version of this year’s Samsung flagship smartphone, the South Korea-based phone maker is also readying a cameraphone that will be called Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom. The first rumor about the existence of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom hit the web a week ago, while the latest claims that the yet unannounced terminal will be capable of 10x optical zoom.
The idea of implementing a lens with adjustable focal distance on a phone is not new, not even for the South Koreans, as the Samsung W880 and Nokia N93 terminals came with 3x optical zoom cameras many years ago. The jump to 10x would be important, but even the mots compact cameras that offer 10x optical zoom are more than 17.5 mm thick, way over the standards accepted nowadays for a smartphone.
But, in the same time, Apple has filled a patent for a camera that provides optical zoom by positioning the lens and the sensor differently, and Samsung might have a similar approach, which would allow them to develop a cameraphone that is not necessarily thick and that fits somewhere in between the current smartphone line-up and Galaxy Camera.
According to the rumor mill, Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will sport a 4.3-inch AMOLED display with qHD resolution, 8 GB of internal storage, microSD slot, dual-band wireless connectivity, and a release date set for early June.
In the meantime, the folks at SamMobile did some digging and fount a photo that was taken with the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, codenamed (SM C-101) in Picasa Albums. The picture has been taken by Shahriar Hossain, Samsung employee, a fact that confirms for us that the Galaxy S4 Zoom is real and that it will probably bee unveiled soon.
