Over the last few months, we have come across various leaked benchmark listings as well as rumors that revealed a few key details regarding the Nokia 9, expected to be HMD Global’s flagship Nokia-branded smartphone for 2017. However, according to new info from a Scandinavian retailer, the Nokia 8 will, in fact, be the flagship Nokia-branded handset this year. The smartphone has been listed on the retailer website already, with a €589 price tag. If the price is indeed accurate, the Nokia 8 should be available for around $600 in the United States. In most European markets, the price will likely be the same as in the Scandinavian region. In terms of color options, the Nokia 8 is listed to be available in Blue, Steel, Gold/Blue, and Gold/Copper colors.
The retailer listing also suggests the smartphone will be released on July 31st, which should mean that the Nokia 8 will be officially unveiled very soon. Of course, we aren’t too sure that the listing is accurate, so we do suggest taking the info with a few grains of salt. However, if the info is accurate, we should expect an official confirmation or press invites to a media event from HMD Global to arrive soon. Even if the handset isn’t officially announced this month, we do expect it to launch before the end of the current quarter.
The flagship Nokia 8 (or should we say 9), will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core 64-bit chipset under the hood, paired with up to 8GB of RAM. The handset has been spotted online with 4GB of RAM as well, but some reports suggest the 4GB RAM variant has been canceled by HMD Global. However, the Scandinavian retailer has listed the 4GB RAM variant on its website, which includes 64GB of built-in storage. Rumors have also suggested the smartphone will include a dual-camera setup, premium aluminum unibody construction, IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, USB Type-C port, and an iris scanner. On the software front, benchmark listings suggest the handset will boot Android 7.1.1 Nougat at launch, with HMD Global’s relatively light custom Android skin running on top.
