Flagship Nokia 9 Makes an Appearance on Geekbench With Snapdragon 835 Inside

Nokia’s upcoming flagship smartphone, rumored to be called the Nokia 9, has shown up on the Geekbench database. The smartphone has been listed as “HMD Global TA-1004” in the Geekbench database, most likely its internal name.

Confirming previous rumors, the Geekbench benchmark listing reveals the Nokia 9 is going to be powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC under the hood. The Snapdragon 835 chipset powers majority of 2017 flagship smartphones released so far. Some of them include the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, Sony Xperia XZ Premium, HTC U 11 and the Xiaomi Mi 6. Like most smartphones powered by the chipset, the Nokia 9 too includes 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. A few rumors had suggested the Nokia 9 will come with 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, but the Geekbench listing certainly suggests otherwise. No other hardware specs have been revealed in the listing, typical of Geekbench.

What we can’t help but notice is that the Nokia 9 prototype managed to post scores higher than all other Android smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset. In the single-core test, it fell behind the Apple iPhone 7 Plus but in the multi-core test it managed to leave all of its rivals behind. This is likely the result of great software optimization as well as the light skin that Nokia is using.

While the Geekbench listing doesn’t tell us more about the Nokia 9, a leak that surfaced online recently revealed quite a few other details as well. As can be seen in the live images of a Nokia 9 prototype below, the smartphone features a dual-camera setup at the back. According to the source of the leak, the smartphone includes dual 13MP sensors at the back, one of which takes color photos while the other takes monochrome shots. A few camera samples have been published as well, but the results don’t seem all that great, at least currently. The live images of the prototype also confirm the presence of a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

In terms of specs, the CPU-Z screenshot suggests the Nokia 9 is going to sport a 5.3-inch sized display with 1440 x 2560 Quad HD resolution. Some of the other key details that can be seen in the screenshot include 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
