A few hours ago, both LG and Samsung announced that they are going to mass produce flexible display, Samsung going even further and claimed that the first smartphone with this technology is going to be released in a few days. LG on the other hand is going to unveil their flexible display based smartphone somewhere in November who will have a 700 millimeters radius from top to bottom.
As expected, Samsung took the lead and left LG fans wait until November while Samsung is ready to announce Galaxy Round, the first ever mass produced smartphone who will carry plastic based flexible display. Galaxy Round is expected to have the same specs sheet as Galaxy Note 3 with the only difference made by the OLED display, instead of Super AMOLED glass based display. Our source are claiming that Galaxy Round is in fact the “special” Galaxy Note 3 edition rumored last month and that the display change is going to add more durability for the smartphone.
Now, we all know that Galaxy Note 3 has an impressive 5.7 inch display, and if we take a look at what Samsung announced a while ago about the flexible display dimensions: 5.7 inch, 0.12 millimeters in thickness and 5.2 grams, it all fits perfectly and makes sense now. If we take for granted our source, beside the weight loss, Galaxy Round won’t be any different from Galaxy Note, in the terms of a total-flexible display.
The price tag for Galaxy Round is 1 million won, which can be converted to over $900, making it close to what we expected. Even if the smartphone is expected in Korea first, there are no signs that the smartphone is going to reach US soil, mostly because its “limited edition” tag, but if Galaxy Round will enjoy a success on the Korean market, then we could expect an expansion over world-wide markets, including US. But if we really take for granted the limited edition tag, it is expected for Samsung to produce more devices or maybe create one which could take advantage of the curved possibility of the display.

Tell us, are you happy with Samsungs decision to wrap up the flexible display on Galaxy Note 3 or you would have expected to see this technology on a stand-alone device?
