Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 Android 4.4.2 OTA Update Now Rolling out

Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2

Samsung has begun the roll out for the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 OTA update. It looks like the Koreans want to update their 2013 flagship devices to the latest Android version before the Galaxy S5 release. After Note 3 got updated to Android 4.4.2, the new firmware is now being pushed to the Samsung Galaxy S4 users.

Because most of the software features that debuted on the Galaxy Note 3 were patched in the Android 4.3 update, the Android 4.4.2 update for Samsung Galaxy S4 arrives with minor UI changes like transparent status bar, white status bar icons, immersive mode, full screen album art in lock screen, and cloud printing, plus performance improvements that can be observed in the benchmark scores. The new software update also brings a camera shortcut to the lockscreen, improved Samsung keyboard, emoji support, and more.

According to the folks at Sammobile the Android 4.4.2 update is only being pushed to the owners of the Exynos 5 Octa-powered Galaxy S5, codenamed I9500. For the time being, it’s not known when the new firmware will be made available for the Snapdragon 600 Galaxy S4 I9505.

As usual, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 OTA update is being rolled out in stages, therefore you might not be able to download it right away. Further more, if you own a carrier branded handset then it might take some time until the new firmware hits your device as it has to get tested by the carrier first.

Usually, once the update becomes available for you, you will receive a system update message in the notifications area. Anyway it’s also worth checking for it manually under Settings > More > About Device > Software Update > Update. Alternatively, you can grab the USB cable and connect your Galaxy S4 to the PC via KIES.

If you haven’t received the update on your Galaxy S4 I9500 we are advising you to stick with us, because a tutorial that will teach you how to manually update your S4 to official Android 4.4.2 will be ready in a couple of hours.
