Google has started updating a bunch of their apps lately and now it’s the time for Google Drive, which has been updated to version 1.3.
The Google Drive 1.3 comes with a lot of changes, improvements, but some functions have also been removed, now requiring Docs or Sheets to be installed for that.
The app can no longer edit documents and spreadsheets by itself, so instead it prompts the user to install Docs or Sheets. The menu has been redesigned and rearranged and it does look better.
Two new buttons have been added to the menu: New file and Refresh item. Also Docs and Sheets are now used automatically in Google Drive.
This isn’t a huge update, but it does make the app a bit better and it also feels more responsive, so it’s worth it if you’re a Google Drive user.
If the 1.3 version hasn’t rolled out to your device yet, then you can grab the Google Drive 1.3 APK from then end of this post and install it manually. You should know that you have to enable Unknown sources before installing an app from outside the Play Store. In order to do that, head over to Settings -> Security and check Unknown sources. After you download and install the app, make sure to go back to the security settings and uncheck Unknown sources, because it represents a security risk.
