Google Glass is in for a major update, one that should be available by the end of this week. It will bring the first Android 4.4 KitKat build and multiple other great things that should greatly improve the Glass environment.
The Google Glass devices will get the KitKat 4.4 OS, Photo bundles, photo replies in Hangouts, sending feedback, voice command sorting, video calls removed completely. Other small tweaks have been added to other areas of Glass.
The Android 4.4 KitKat for Google Glass is a pretty big deal as it changes the whole OS with better battery life and a more reliable OS that can be easily updated when a new software would be released in the future. Also, now that the KitKat is available, developers are able to create and build Glassware with help from the latest build of Android SDK.
Photo bundles adds support for scrolling through timeline, photos, videos and other vignettes more easily, so that every single day will be listed in bundles and you will view more info while swiping less. This is a feature that was requested by Glass Explorers along with support for Photo replies support for Hangouts.
From now on when you’re asked how you’re doing or any other thing and you wish to send them a photo you will simply need to tap ‘Reply’ and then take a picture and show them exactly what you’re doing.
With the new update you will get support for sorting Voice commands. These will be sorted from now on by frequency and most recently used voice command, it will help you find easier all commands from the touch menu.
Video Calling has been completely removed since this feature was only used by a limited number of Explorers, as the quality is very low and there is a lot of work to be done.
There are new things added and it would be best for you to keep an eye on the Explorers Community and check all the new info released to Glass Journal.
The new Android 4.4 KitKat update for Google Glass will be live later this week. Also, the Google Glass device is available today and you can get one by visiting the Explorer Program web page.
