HMD has started sending out press invites to an event in China to be held on the 19th of this month. While the company hasn’t given out any clues yet, it is likely that the company will be announcing the launch of its flagship Nokia 8 smartphone in the country. However, some reports suggest that it could unveil an all-new Nokia-branded smartphone at the event. The official TMALL Nokia store has released an animated GIF teasing the upcoming event, which shows a phone with the Bothie feature. Since the Bothie feature was introduced with the Nokia 8, it does seem likely that the flagship handset will be making its debut in China at the event. If that is indeed the case, we would expect HMD Global to launch the 6GB RAM variant of the Nokia 8, which was made official in Finland recently. Apart from packing 6GB of RAM, it also offers higher 128GB of built-in storage.
If HMD Global does plan to launch a new event at the event later this week, it could be the rumored Nokia 7, a mid-range handset positioned below the flagship Nokia 8. Rumors suggest the handset could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset and come in 3GB and 4GB RAM variants. In terms of storage, the consumers will be able to choose between 32GB and 64GB options. The current Nokia smartphone lineup has a pretty significant void between the lower mid-range Nokia 6 and the flagship Nokia 8. With the Nokia 7, HMD Global will be able to fill that void effectively. However, a recent rumor had suggested that the Nokia 7 may not be announced any time before early 2018. An entry-level Nokia 2 has been rumored as well, although the chances of it making an apperanceat the October 19th event are very slim.
HMD Global received a great response to the Nokia 6 in China earlier this year, thanks to the popularity of the Nokia brand there. The Nokia 8 should prove to be a similar success, especially given the fact that the company has priced it lower than most other leading flagship smartphones released this year.
