LG Optimus GJ E975W is the first high-end smartphone developed by the South Korea-based company that comes with a water and dust proof case. Build to meet the requirements of the IPX7 standard, LG Optimus GJ is capable of “diving” in 1 meter deep waters and stay there for up to 30 minutes without any damage to occur.
Just like its name indicates, the LG Optimus GJ is a slightly revised variant of the already popular Optimus G smartphone (which served as a foundation for the development of the Nexus 4), sheltered in a slightly larger case (LG Optimus GJ measures 136.9 x 68.9 x 9.9mm while LG Optimus G is sized 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.5mm).
Inside the water and dust proof case, LG Optimus GJ hides a quad-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset manufactured by Qualcomm, assisted by 2 GB of RAM. The LG Optimus GJ has 16 GB of internal storage space and it can be expanded using a microSD card of up to 64 GB. On the back of the case there’s a 13 megapixel camera, while the front panel accommodates a 4.7-inch screen with IPS technology, on which the Android Jelly Bean interface is displayed at HD resolution.
The hardware platform of the LG Optimus GJ is powered by a 2,280 mAh battery which should get the smartphone through one day of normal usage.
The new LG Optimus GJ will be available in black and black/red body liveries and the Taiwanese market will be the first one to get it. The release date of the water and dust proof smartphone have been set for June, with a price tag of $600.
