If you need to enter recovery mode or if you want to obtain further info about your HTC U11, you will have to access the download mode first. This is a dedicated environment through which you can access different other mods that are running on your phone, so if you are thinking in completing a manual operation on your phone (it really doesn’t matter what kind of process you want to initiate) chances are you will have to access and use the download mode first.
That’s why I decided that I should detail everything that’s related with this mode. Of course, I will also show you how to safely and successfully reboot the download mode on your HTC U11, but first I want to review the advantages that are being related with the particular process.
The download mode is a dedicated environment that runs on your phone separately and independently from the stock Android mode. That means you can anytime reboot your smartphone in download mode, regardless of the state in which your handset can be found. But why should you bring this mode on your HTC U11?
Well as already pointed out, the download mode can offer more info about your device. For example, you can verify if your HTC branded device is running with S turned Off or On (you can learn more about S-On / Off by using our dedicated tutorial from here) and you can view the CID number and other similar info. Additionally, as already outlined, from download mode you can choose to access other similar mods such as the recovery environment, or the bootloader mode.
Moreover, the very same download mode will be required if you will want to manually update your HTC U11 with the stock / default Android firmware. During that process you will have to connect your phone with your computer and the only way in which you smartphone can be properly recognized by the flashing tool is if it’s running on download mode.
Since a manual update operation can be used for resolving different problems (restore the warranty after completing a tweaking process, revoking root access, relocking the bootloader, reinstalling the stock recovery image, fixing different software related issues and so on), reaching download mode is quite important and represents a process that should be learned by all the Android users who are interested in keeping everything safe and secured on their Android based device.
The download mode is featured by default within the Android core system that runs on your HTC U11. So, reaching it represents an official operation that can be performed without using complex or risky tools. Also, the reboot sequence can be initiated even if your smartphone is rooted or tweaked through different other procedures. Overall, you have nothing to worry about – the steps from below are general ones that will work all the time and you won’t lose your phone’s warranty while choosing to resume this dedicated step by step guide.
Now, if you want to use the download mode for applying other operations, my advice is to complete a backup first. If you saved personal files and data on your smartphone, the best is to keep everything secured regardless of the operations you choose to apply. So, with a proper backup ensured you can place your data in safe hands. On your backup initiative don’t forget to save what’s essential: contacts, call logs, texts, images, videos, audio files, market apps, internet settings, calendar info, saved passwords, IMEI / NVRAM data and so on.
And you should charge your smartphone if its power is currently lower than 50%. Below that threshold the power can’t keep up with certain processes situation that will cause a sudden switch off. Well, if your HTC U11 will get turned off while you try to enter and use the download mode, different soft related problems can be caused – I am talking about general malfunctions such as boot loops, screen freeze, total blackouts or other similar bugs. That’s why you should be careful in order to avoid unexpected problems. Overall, take your time and wait while your phone is being charged if that’s required.
How to Enter Download Mode on the HTC U11
- Your smartphone must be turned off; if not, start by switching off your handset – press the Power key and select “power off” or press and hold the Power button for a few moments.
- Wait while the shut down process is being completed.
- Now, start pressing the Volume Down and Power buttons, at the same time, for a few seconds.
- The Download Mode will be displayed on your HTC U11.
This second solution is a little bit more complicated as it can be completed through a computer. And first, there are a few things that must be ensured: on the computer your HTC U11 drivers must be installed; additionally, Android SDK must be there – thus, install Android SDK on Windows or set up ADB on MAC OS X / Linux; on your smartphone you have to check the USB Debugging option which is located under “menu – > settings – > developer options”; if Developer Options can’t be reached first tap repeatedly on Built Number until the ‘you are a developer’ message is displayed on your phone; finally, complete the steps from below:
- Power on your HTC U11 and start your computer.
- Then, connect your handset with your PC with the help of your phone’s USB cable.
- On your computer go to the Android SDK folder.
- From there open a cmd window: press and hold the Shift keyboard key and right click on any blank space; then select “open command prompt window here”.
- Now, in the cmd window type: adb reboot download mode.
- Wait while your device is being automatically rebooted into download mode.
There is another way in which you can go into download mode. But, this process might work only for rooted devices. Anyway, what you need to do is to download a dedicated app from Google Play. This app will automatically take you to the download mode menu. In that respect you can try to use the Quick Boot software. All you have to do is to download and install the tool on your phone; then run it and follow on screen prompts in order to enter the desired mode.
That’s all; those are the most common methods in which you can enter your HTC U11 into download mode. Enjoy and tell us how things worked for you or if you need other info and help. You can get in touch with us and with other users by using the comments field from down below.
