I am sure that at some point most us realized that it would be very useful to be able to control our music running on our PC’s via our Android or iOS running devices. Unfortunately, to make this dream come true we had to search for a lot of apps, most of them fairly complicated, and after a while realize that we were better just by using the classic mouse and keyboard combination. Times have changed, and now it is fairly easy to use your Android running device to control the music on your PC. And by control I mean being able to choose which track to play, control the volume and all have access to all the common setting you normally use on your music player.
For this remote control method to work, all you have to do is to install two different things, one app on your Android device and a plugin for Winamp on your PC. Unfortunately for those who do not use Winamp, this is the only player that supports a remote control.
We will start with the steps you need to undertake in order to install Winamp on your PC and a plugin that makes it able to communicate with the Android device. All you have to do is follow the points below in order and you will be set to begin the second part:
The first step is easy and it only requires you to download the Winamp player. You can find the link here.
The second step involves downloading and installing the remote control plug-in for Winamp on your PC. You may be prompted to update the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 software during the installation. Both are included in the plug-in setup file. You can find this plugin by clicking here.
The last step is also fairly easy and so, all you have to do is to launch Winamp and make a note of your local IP address from the RemoteControl server. If you don’t know where to find that IP address please check the screen shot below.
The second part of this tutorial is aimed at your Android running device. This is what you will use as a remote controller and for this to work you have to download, install and configure an app like it is described in the steps below:
The first step in this second part is comprised of installing the RemoteControl for Winamp app on to your Android device. You can download this app for free from the Play Store here or by searching for it on the Play Store from your Android device.
The second step involves some tapping so you have to start the RemoteControl for Winamp app you just downloaded and navigate to the Settings tab. There you will to enter the server IP address you wrote down from the Remote Control server plugin on your PC.
The third step is fairly easy and all you have to do at it is to go to the Overview Tab in the application and click Connect. The connect button is located right at the bottom of the display.
The last step is achieved once you have connected your Android device with your PC. After doing that you will be able to play/pause, skip back/forward, shuffle, repeat, mute, and control the general volume in your Winamp application on the PC.
This is all you have to do to make a remote control for Winamp from your Android device. Keep in mind that you will need to either have a Wi Fi router to which both devices are connected or a Wi Fi compatible card in your PC or laptop to make it act as a router. All that is left for you to do now is to enjoy good quality music from a comfortable place in your house.
