Interesting rumors about HTC’s new flagship smartphone appear almost on a daily basis, but this one is at least curious. We all know that the new high-end device that HTC is about to launch is codenamed M7. As for its name, there was a lot of debating, some saying that it will carry the name of One X2, others One Y, etc. Well, it seems that the new handset will be simply named HTC One. The information comes from a known Twiiter leaker @Evleaks.
The codename M7 was brought into discussion at the end of 2012. Since we didn’t have an official branding, we just called HTC M7 and this is the only name under which it has been referred to until now. I don’t know, maybe HTC wants to keep it simple with this same. Or perhaps, all the devices that the company has launched over the past months (the HTC One X, One S, One V), were meant as merely samples of what’s about to come out, the HTC One.
This seems to fit right in as, if you remember, HTC CEO Peter Chou, who was present at an inside event recently, was chanting “HTC One” right after “M7”. The Twitter leaker has a good reputation when it comes to offering information about a product before it actually gets released. However, this is still just an unconfirmed rumor, so you are all free to treat it as you want. The official announcement of the HTC M7, or HTC One, however you want to call it, will probably be at the company’s press event which will take place on February 19th.
Anyway, whatever flagship HTC might release next, it better be a good one because 2012 wasn’t a very good year for the Taiwanese company and they really need a strong comeback in order to keep the pace with rivals such as Apple and Samsung, the latter planning to launch the Galaxy S4 soon.
