Along with the Samsung Galaxy S5 the HTC M8 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of the first half of the year. While we’ve already heard about most of the S5 specs and even got a confirmation for its launch, the details about the HTC One successor are shallow.
Courtesy of @evleaks, we get a new round of HTC M8 reports. The well-known leaker told us in one of his recent Twitter posts that the HTC M8 (which is the code name for the HTC One follow-up) might be introduced by the Tawainese phone maker late March, during an event in New York.
@evleaks also tweeted about the design of the HTC M8. According to him, who is almost 100% accurate when it comes to reporting about HTC, the M8 “looks strikingly like the M7 [HTC One],” which is not entirely bad news give that, in my opinion, the HTC One as the best-looking smartphone launched in 2013.
Let’s get back to HTC M8’s release date and release place. Why March? Why New York City? Well, we are 99% sure that Samsung will introduce the Galaxy S5 later this month at MWC 2013 and HTC is definitely not wanting to give Samsung a head start. Even though the S5 will be introduced in February, it will not be launched on the market until late March – early April. Or at least that’s what a Samsung exec said a last month at CES. So, the HTC M8 and the Galaxy S5 could hit the market in the same time.
New York is to me the best place to launch a smartphone in. The city is close to the headquarters of many big media outlets, so using it to launch your smartphone would guarantee great coverage.
Rumor has it that the HTC M8 will pack a fingerprint scanner which is not surprising, considering that the One Max also had one mounted on its back. It’s also rumored that it might arrive with a slightly bigger screen with 1080p resolution and, probably, a Snapdragon 805 processor. Chances are, the HTC M8 will run Android 4.4 with new Sense 6 UI.
