The past couple of years haven’t been the greatest for HTC in terms of sold units. Now, with the release of the HTC One things can change for the Taiwan-based company, in a good way.
The HTC One is the latest pride of the phone maker being announced a few days before Mobile World Congress. The device will be launched will be released in many markets all over the world, including Taiwan, country for which the pricing details have been made public.
According to ePrice, the HTC One will have different price tag, depending on the internal storage space. The 16 GB version will be sold for 19,900 TWD (or $671), the 32 GB model will cost 21,900 TWD (or $734), while for the 64 GB variant customers will have to pay 24,900 TWD (or $840).
What’s interesting is that the all the HTC One versions are cheaper than the iPhone 5 alternatives, even though the HTC One is a newer smartphone that packs a lot more better hardware under the hood. In other words, the most expensive HTC One (that has 64 GB of internal storage) will cost less that the iPhone 5 with the same amount of on-board storage space, which costs 28,900 TWD (or $975).
You may ask how is this important? The thing is that judging by the prices in Taiwan, we can guess how much the HTC One will cost on the markets where it hasn’t been released yet by comparing it to the iPhone 5.
For example, in the United States the 64 GB version of the iPhone 5 is sold for $849. Logical it would be that the 64 GB HTC One to be cheaper (we’re talking about off-contract prices, of course). As for the on contract version, the iPhone 5 is priced at $399 with a two-year plan with any of the major US carriers.
The HTC One will be released on North American soil, as well. The device will be available for purchase from at least three carriers, namely Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T, which have already announced that they will be offering it.
If you don’t remember the specs of the HTC One, then know that it will come with a 4.7-inch display with a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080 protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 2. The handset it powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core 1.7 GHz Krait 300 CPU, helped by an Adreno 320 GPU. Apart from the internal memory mentioned above, the HTC One will also boast 2GB of RAM.
As for the camera, the HTC One is the first device that comes with the ultrapixel technology, and the smartphone sports a 4MP primary shooter in the back, which features 1/3” sensor size, simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, OIS, and it’s capable if recording full HD video with stereo sound, and a 2.1MP front-facing one.
The HTC One comes running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, but the operating system can be updated to Android 4.2.2.
