We’ve been hearing about the Android 4.4.3 update for a while now, but this is the first time we hear that the new firmware might come outside the Nexus and Google Play Edition tribes. The information comes from LlabTooFer, the reputed HTC developer.
LlabTooFer revealed on his blog that the Taiwan-based phone maker plans to bring the Android 4.4.3 update to at least four of its devices. According to the roadmap posted by LlabTooFeer the Android 4.4.3 update for the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition and HTC One M7 Google Play Edition will be rolled out to users in May – June time frame.
The same posting also reveals that HTC is also planning to issue an Android 4.4.3 + Sense 6.0 update, which means that their smartphones outside the Nexus experience program will also taste the new KitKat version. While the HTC One M8 will get updated to Android 4.4.3 + Sense 6.0 sometime in May – June, the HTC One M7 will get the same software update about a month later, in June – July. It seems though that the dual-SIM variant of the One M7 device has been left out. Still it will get updated to Android 4.4.2 + Sense 6.0 in May – June.
We have bad news for the owners of older HTC smartphones: HTC Butterfly, HTC One X, One X+, and One XL are all left outside the Sense 6.0 zone. While HTC Butterfly seems to be the only one to get a taste of KitKat and Sense 5.5 (already available for Verizon’s Droid DNA), the other three devices will not get updated past Android 4.3.
