HTC users have been complaining for the lack of updates or their delay and they were right. The US version of HTC One is still running on Android 4.1.2, while the international one has been updated to 4.2.2. But we now have good news for US owners of the HTC One. HTC’s president has just tweeted that they are working on an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updated, skipping Android 4.2.2.
HTC president Jason Mackenzie stated that Android 4.2.2 offers limited customer benefit, so they are working directly on 4.3, which is close. We don’t know what close means, especially that carriers are also known to delay the updates. But we might see the Android 4.3 update in a couple of months, if we’re lucky enough.
While the carriers its already available on sell it with Android 4.1.2 out of the box, it’s going to be released on Verizon on August 22 with Android 4.2.2. So we don’t know if Verizon users will get the same updates as the other carriers, but we surely hope so.
Hopefully they will release the update for the international version too, which has been running on Android 4.2.2 for a while. The luckiest users are the HTC One Google Play Edition owners, which has been already updated to Android 4.3.
The Taiwanese maker is struggling hard in order to regain the lost market share, but customers are unsatisfied by the pace of updates on their smartphones, even if HTC designs some of the most beautiful devices. HTC One has been highly appraised, though it failed to save the company, with sales remaining low, while Samsung’s share keeps growing. Hopefully they will manage to get things better and update their devices faster. They’re also known for stopping updates after a very short time, with some devices only getting a single major update during their lifetime.
The HTC One remains one of the most powerful smartphones on the market, competing with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z. It features a 1.7 Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU, 2GB of RAM and it comes with 32GB of internal storage. It also sports a 4.7-inch 1080p display with a 468 PPI density, a 4MP Ultrapixel camera able to record 1080p videos, and a 2,300 mAh battery.
