HTC’s new U Ultra and U Play smartphones, which were made official by the Taiwanese manufacturer last month, are now up for pre-order in the UK. Both smartphones will be going on sale via major retailers starting March 1.
The U Ultra SIM-free is currently listed for pre-order for £614.98 by Unlocked Mobiles, £620 by Clove, £649.99 by Carphone Warehouse, and £649 at HTC’s UK online store. If you purchase yours from Carphone Warehouse, you also get to opt for a two-year contract with varying plans starting at £50.99 monthly. In the UK, the HTC U Ultra is being offered in four color options – Black, White, Pink, and Blue.
The U Play on the other hand, can be pre-ordered for £394.98 at Unlocked Mobiles, £394.99 at Clove, £469.99 at Carphone Warehouse, and £399 at the HTC UK online store. It will be available in the same four color options as the U Ultra – Black, White, Pink, and Blue. However, not all colors are available from every retailer.
The U Ultra is HTC’s latest flagship smartphone, featuring a large 5.7-inch Quad HD Super LCD5 display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, paired with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. While the international version comes with either 64GB or 128GB onboard storage, the UK version will ship with 32GB of internal storage. The smartphone does include a memory card slot though, so you will be able to expand it further by up to 256GB. One of its main USPs is the 12MP primary camera at the back, integrating optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus, and laser autofocus technologies. There is also an impressive 16MP camera on the front for selfies. Rest of the highlights include a USB Type-C port, fingerprint scanner, Hi-Res audio playback, and a 3000mAh capacity battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.
The HTC U Play on the other, features a smaller 5.2-inch display with 1080p Full HD resolution. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core chipset clocked at 2 GHz, paired with 3GB of RAM. It also includes 32GB of onboard expandable storage, 16MP primary camera with optical image stabilization, 16MP selfie camera, USB Type-C port, and a 2500mAh capacity battery with fast charging. The smartphone runs on the outdated Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system out of the box, but an update to Android 7.0 Nougat could perhaps be rolled out later this year.
