The Ascend P2, the next flagship smartphone developed by Huawei, has not been officially announced. However, there are a lot of details about the device that we already are familiar with. The latest news is that the handset will borrow a characteristic from the Ascend D2, meaning that it will have a case resistant to water and dust.
According to some reports, the Huawei Ascend P2 will have IP54 certification, which means that the handset can handle a little water if you get splashed or something. Having the IP54 certification also signifies that it has protection against dust. However, this feature only resembles the Ascend D2, it’s not exactly the same because the D2 has a fully dust-tight design and can be completely be immersed in water. Nevertheless, the Ascend P2 will be more durable than a standard phone.
Moving on from the IP54 certification, the smartphone will also come with some solid technical specifications namely a 4.5-inch IPS 1080p display, a quad-core 1.8 GHz CPU and 2GB of RAM. The Ascend P2 will also offer 8GB of internal storage, and will include a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera and 1 1.3 megapixel in the front, a 3,000 mAh battery and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
It seems like Huawei is taking the high-end device road following major players such as Samsung, Apple or Nokia. And, if the rumored specs are true, the Ascend P2 seems like a pretty impressive phone. The release date has not made public yet, but it would be better if it would be launched sooner than the Ascend P1, at least in the United States.
