IFA 2017: LG Announces the V30 With OLED FullVision Display and ‘Cinematic’ Video Capabilities

At a pre-IFA 2017 press conference held in Berlin today, South Korean LG Electronics announced its third V-series flagship smartphone, the V30. The latest LG flagship sports a 6-inch OLED FullVision display with 1440 x 2880 Quad HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. LG has done away with the secondary display feature this time, “replacing” it with a floating bar. You also get the Always-on Display feature from the G-series.

Like most 2017 flagships, the new V30 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core 64-bit SoC under the hood, paired with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The V30 includes 64GB of UFS 2.0 storage, while the V30+ variant will ship with 128GB of UFS 2.0 storage. Compared to the LG G6, the V30 is a significant upgrade in the camera department. Instead of dual 13MP cameras, the V30 uses a 16MP + 13MP dual-camera setup at the rear. The primary 16MP sensor has been paired with class-leading f/1.6 aperture Crystal Clear glass lens and integrates features such as optical image stabilization (OIS), electronic image stabilization (EIS), and Hybrid Auto Focus (laser + phase detection autofocus). The secondary 13MP wide-angle camera offers a 120-degree FoV and is paired with an f/1.9 aperture lens. When it comes to video, LG is offering a Cine Video mode that lets anyone capture cinema-like movies with the help of Cine Effects and Point Zoom features.

Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C, and LTE-A 4 Band CA. Keeping the lights on is a 3300mAh capacity battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 as well as wireless charging. Rest of the key features include MIL-STD 810G Compliance, IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, Daydream support, voice recognition, face recognition, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 5MP front-facing camera. The V30 will ship with Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box along with LG’s new UX 6.0+ layer on top.

In LG’s home market of South Korea, the V30 will go on sale on September 21, followed by major markets in North America, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The V30+ variant, will only be sold in limited markets. Color options include Aurora Black, Cloud Silver, Moroccan Blue and Lavender Violet.
