Install Android 4.4.2 Gummy ROM on Galaxy S2 I9100

Android 4.4.2

Do you want to test a great Android 4.4.2 custom ROM on your Galaxy S2 I9100? If you want to enjoy a stable, smooth, fast and styled KitKat experience on your phone, then you should flash the Gummy firmware, which has been one of the first custom updates to bring Android 4.4 KitKat OS to the non-Nexus devices. So, if I have convinced you, don’t hesitate and check the guidelines from below for learning how to easily install Android 4.4.2 Gummy firmware on your Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100.

This is the unofficial version of Gummy custom ROM. Even though we are not dealing with the official launch of the Android 4.4.2 firmware, the update is stable and comes without bugs, issues or things that aren’t working properly. Therefore, Gummy ROM runs smoothly on the Galaxy S2 and can be safely installed for daily use. Of course, since this is a custom ROM, the same can be only manually flashed on your Android device, so this is why following the present step by step guide is so important.

Furthermore, Gummy ROM is an unofficial Android platform that represents a free aftermarket distribution of Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. The firmware is developed by third party devs (those of xda-developers) and it has nothing to do with Google or Samsung. Therefore, consider this tutorial complex and risky and don’t perform things without consulting the guidelines detailed on this tutorial. Else, if you somehow mess things up, you can end up in bricking your Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100.

If we are to talk about the Gummy features, apps and capabilities we should mention that this firmware is coming with its own version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS that has been optimized for your Galaxy S2. So, the software is having new themes and customization possibilities along with extra features that cannot be found in the default variant of Android system. All these features can then be used for improving the performances of your smartphone. Basically, you will receive more power and improved speeds, along with an upgraded battery life that can be used for enjoying a redesigned Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS and a new web browsing experience.

If you want to flash this new update on your phone, then first take care of the pre requisites from below.

  • Root your SGS2 I9100.
  • Install the latest version of CWM or TWRP recovery on your phone.
  • Backup your Android device.
  • Also make a Nandroid backup.
  • Ensure that you can use a computer, your handset and its USB cable.
  • On the computer temporarily deactivate the antivirus and the others programs that are referring to security protection.
  • Check the battery status of your phone: if there is less than 50% power left, take your time and plug in the charger, else skip this step.
  • Enable USB debugging option on your device; that can be achieved from path “menu – settings – developer options”.
  • Apply this step by step guide only if you have the Samsung Galaxy S2 model number I9100 – the Gummy Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware is compatible only with the mentioned Android device.

Root access must be gained because a custom ROM must access the internal system of your S2. You cannot install Gummy ROM in other ways, so do ensure that root is achieved on your smartphone. Don’t worry, as gaining root access has numerous advantages that can be used for improving the performances of your device. At the same time remember that achieving root represents and unofficial operation, so by doing the same you will void the warranty of your Samsung Galaxy S2. The warranty can be anytime restored only by downgrading your handset to stock Android OS – for revoking root access and for relocking the bootloader.

A custom recovery image is being required because Gummy ROM can be flashed only by using such app. Also, use the latest version of CWM or TWRP recovery as the Android 4.4.2 based custom ROMs can be applied only via the same. Furthermore, before heading to the proper installation guide, use the custom recovery image you have just flashed for making a Nandroid backup – in this way you can safely save / restore the current ROM.

As mentioned above, a backup is indicated. You should save everything that’s stored on the internal memory of your device since a wipe will be required. In order to keep your data in safe hands you should use suitable backup and restore apps from Google Play for saving the EFS folder, market apps, contacts list, call logs and your personal info, accounts and data.

The rest of the steps from above are referring to general pre requisites, operations which are basically required when performing manual operations. So, complete the same and don’t apply things by yourselves. If you mess things up, you can damage the internal system of your phone or you can even end up in bricking your Android device.
