Install Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS on HTC One X+ with Avatar Custom ROM

The International model of the HTC One X+ smartphone can now be updated to Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware. The update isn’t official, so if you choose to follow the present step by step guide, I will show you how to install the latest version of Avatar custom ROM on your Android device. The flashing procedure can be easily performed, so don’t hesitate and use the guidelines from below; in the end, of course, your HTC One X Plus will be running on Avatar based Android 4.4.2 software.

As you might know, Avatar is a popular custom ROM as the firmware is mixing features and capabilities from other platforms like CM11, AOKP or ParanoidAndroid. Furthermore, the Avatar team just released the latest version of their update, meaning that now the ROM is powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. Also, the same team had released the mentioned firmware for the international model of the HTC One X+ and by using this dedicated tutorial you will be able to learn how to safely flash the ROM on your Android smartphone.

Avatar ROM represents a free aftermarket distribution of Android 4.4 KitKat OS and has nothing to do with HTC or with Google. The software is developed by third party devs, so you will not install an official update on your One X+. Because of that, Avatar can be installed only manually and only by using a compatible step by step guide. Furthermore, the update procedure is complex and can become risky if you are performing things by yourselves – you can even end up in bricking your Android smartphone. Because of that, don’t install Android 4.4.2 firmware on HTC One X+ without consulting the guidelines from below.

According to the users who have already applied this update, Avatar ROM is stable and runs smoothly on the international version of HTC One X Plus. The ROM comes with stock features and also with extra ones that cannot be found on the default version of Android 4.4 system. Furthermore, there are capabilities that can be used for improving the performances of your Android smartphone and at the same time you will be able to access the internal system of your phone for completing other custom and unofficial operations.

Therefore, if you choose to install Avatar OS on your HTC One X Plus then you will be able to improve the speeds of your device, upgrade the battery life, redesign the classic Android firmware, update the web browsing experience, optimize the performances, customize the looks, remove bloatware, add new custom apps, remove in build programs and lot more. So, by updating your device to custom Android 4.4.2 firmware you will also manage to tweak your Android smartphone, which means that completing this operation is a must have, especially for the advanced Android users.

In order to do the same, first you will have to prepare your One X for the update procedure that will follow. The first thing to do is to root your phone. Gain root access because this is the first step to apply when trying to install a custom ROM. Be careful though as gaining root access represents an unofficial operation and by performing the same the warranty of your device will get void. As a personal tip, if you need to restore the warranty, just downgrade or update your HTC One X+ to stock or official Android system – then root access will be revoked and the default and factory restrictions reinstalled.

After completing the root operation you also have to replace the stock recovery from your phone with a custom recovery image. A custom ROM can be flashed only by using a custom recovery and Android 4.4.2 based Avatar firmware in particular can be installed only by using the latest version of CWM or TWRP recovery. So, make sure to use one of the mentioned apps. Do note that the custom recovery image can be flashed only after completing the root operation.

Up next it is more than recommended to backup the data which is saved on the internal storage of your HTC One X+. Why? Well, just before flashing Android 4.4.2 Avatar firmware a wipe will be required and when wiping the system your data might get corrupted or erased. So, if you have something important saved on your phone, now it will be perfect to make a complete backup – at least save your personal info and accounts, along with market apps, contacts list, text messages, call logs and everything else that important for you. Don’t forget to save the current ROM by making a Nandroid backup – then you will be able to easily restore the same without using a dedicated tutorial like the present one.

Good; after completing the operations which are being described above ensure that you can use a computer, your Android smartphone and its USB cable. A connection between these devices must be established, so on your phone you first have to enable USB debugging option by heading to path “menu – settings – developer options”. Then on your computer the best will be to temporarily disable the antivirus-like programs protection – these tools might interfere with our work. On the other hand you should check the battery status on your device: if there is less than 50% power left I strongly recommending you to plug in the charger – else your phone might get turned off in the middle of the update procedure (it might also get bricked out if that happens).

Finally, it should be clear for you that Avatar is based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS and can be installed only by using dedicated steps. The procedure from below is compatible only with the international model of the HTC One X Plus, therefore don’t use this tutorial in case you have a similar or different Android based smartphone because you will risk in bricking your Android device.

How to Install Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS on HTC One X+ with Avatar Custom ROM Firmware

  1. On your computer download the Avatar custom ROM file from here.
  2. Then download Google Apps package (from here) – it is not included on the update file so you will have to flash it separately.
  3. Save these files on desktop and don’t unzip.
  4. Now, connect your HTC One X Plus with your computer by using the USB cable.
  5. From desktop transfer the downloaded files on your phone’s SD card.
  6. Then remove the USB cord as the computer is no longer required.
  7. Turn off your smartphone.
  8. Enter your Android device in recovery mode.
  9. From recovery mode select “wipe data factory reset”. Then choose “wipe cache partition”. Pick “advance” and select “wipe dalvick cache”.
  10. Return to recovery and select “install zip from SD card” followed by “choose zip from SD card”.
  11. Pick the Android 4.4.2 OS firmware file and flash the same on your One X+.
  12. Also, pick Google apps package and apply the same on your smartphone.
  13. Perfect; in the end you will have to return to main menu of recovery and select “reboot system now”.

If your Android smartphone gets stuck in a boot loop, then go back to recovery mode and select “wipe data factory reset” and also “wipe cache partition”. Go back to recovery and pick “reboot system now”. Also, if Avatar firmware isn’t on your taste, return to recovery and apply “backup / restore” (you can restore the stock OS only if you had made a nandroid backup as previously recommended) option.
