Best Black Friday Deals at: AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

If you want to change the Galaxy Note 2 firmware with a custom one, or if you want to test the latest features and apps available on the market on your own phablet, then I recommend you to flash the latest release of AOKP custom ROM. As you know, the new AOKP JB-MR1 Milestone 2 build has been released for several Android based handsets, the Note 2 being included on the list. Therefore, we will be checking how to manually update your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (Verizon and T-Mobile versions) with the AOKP Milestone 2 Jelly Bean 4.2.2 custom ROM firmware.

The Milestone 2 build of AOKP comes with new features, apps and capabilities for your Android device. Some of the features are imported from the CM10.1 platform while others can be found only on the AOKP system. Of course we are talking about extra features that cannot be found in the default version of the Android OS. Since this is the latest release of the ROM, AOKP Milestone 2 is based on Jelly Bean 4.2.2 software so you will be flashing the same on your Galaxy Note 2 T889 and I605.

From the features and apps included on AOKP Milestone 2 we must mention: Permission management, AOKP Ribbon, Dark AOKP, mGerrit, Persistence support, Quick Torch on Lockscreen, HDR mode in AOSP Camera, New Toggles and Superuser from Koush. All these will be installed along JB 4.2.2 which will bring a new custom user interface with new looks and customization options. The best when operating on custom ROMs is that you can anytime change the looks, the in-build programs and you can easily optimize and power up the performances, as you have access to the internal system.

Well, if you want all that and more for your Samsung Galaxy Note 2, use this guide and learn how to update your phablet with AOKP JB-MR1 Milestone 2 firmware. Apparently this will be the last release of AOKP at least until the Jelly Bean 4.3 OS will be made available by Google – later this month if we are to believe the latest rumors and info.

Anyway, if you have decided to apply the next steps, first consider in completing the pre requisites. Start by rooting your Verizon or T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 as AOKP can be flashed only on an unchained device. Use suitable root methods for your phablets, or try the one-click root solution that’s available for your handset. Then, install a custom recovery image – preferable CWM or TWRP recovery – on your Note 2. The recovery will be used on the installation procedure, so don’t skip this section as it is the most relevant one.

Do remember that once you root your phablet, the warranty will get void. That’s why you should consider these operations risky and complex. Don’t worry though as if you follow suitable step by step guides everything will be fine. And, furthermore, the warranty can be restore anytime and without much effort; you just have to downgrade your Galaxy Note 2 T889 and I605 to stock jelly Bean 4.2.2 OS, or you have to update your handsets to an official version of the Android firmware (manually because on rooted systems you can’t receive or flash OTA updates).

Before installing the AOKP Milestone 2 custom ROM, backup the Note 2 data. A wipe will be required which means only one thing: if you don’t complete a full backup you can lose all of your personal info and data, including EFS, internet settings and market apps. Also, I recommend you to make a Nandroid backup too – if anything bad happens you can easily restore the stock Jelly Bean firmware.

Finally, ensure that you have access to a computer with which you will connect your phablet. So, enable the USB debugging option on your Note 2. Then, deactivate the security programs and protection that is featured on your computer and on your smartphone. Also, plug in the charger for charging the Note’s battery – else it might get turned off in the middle of the installation procedure.

It’s important to know that this tutorial is compatible only with the Verizon and T-Mobile versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – model numbers T889 and I605. Don’t install the AOKP Milestone 2 JB 4.2.2 custom ROM by using these steps if you own a different version of the phablet as you can easily brick your Android based device.
