The Asus Transformer TF300T already received the Jelly Bean flavor as recently I have showed you how to update the tablet with beta Android 4.1 firmware. But if you want to really take full advantage of your Transformer than you should consider in flashing a custom ROM into its system. The best ROM available for completing this task is the Jelly Bean based CyanogenMod 10, which will easily power up the performances of your Asus TF300T tablet. So, during the following lines we will be checking in how to manually apply the software, all being explained and detailed in a few easy to follow steps.
The CyanogenMod team hasn’t yet released the ROM, so the present variant of the firmware is still in beta stage. This tutorial can be applied thanks to those of xda-developers who had tested it on a Transformer device, so we have them to thanks for this opportunity. As it’s not an official version of CM10, there might be some bugs in the system. Don’t worry as the issues will be removed as soon as a new version of the present update will be made available. We will update you with the same, so stay close.
You cannot complete this step by step guide unless you previously take care of some stuff. First of all, you must root the Asus Transformer TF300T. Then, you must install a custom recovery image on it. Without these procedures, you will not be able to flash the CM 10 ROM on your tablet. But, when you will root it, the warranty will get void. This is a normal thing as you will be making changes into the internal system of your tablet, by removing the factory restrictions. The root procedure comes with many advantages, so don’t get scared about the warranty; you can easily regain it by downgrading to the stock ROM or by applying an official Android update.
Because you are about to flash a custom ROM on your Asus Transformer, you should know that the data might get corrupted. Furthermore you will have to make a wipe of the system, so all of your personal info will be wiped out. You can avoid from losing data by making a backup operation. In this way you can save pretty much all from your tablet: contacts, market apps, personal info, text messages, internet saves and even the current firmware. Also restoring the up-mentioned data will be more then easy. All you need to do is to get some free distributed apps from Google Play and that’s it. Further tips about the backup task can be found by checking our suitable how to guides.
Beside the backup you must complete some preparation things. These are linked to the computer you will have to use and to your tablet. Therefore, on the PC and on your Transformer uninstall the Firewall protection and the antivirus programs. Then, if your device has less than 60% battery power left, charge the battery. Ensure that you have installed the Asus Transformers drivers on your computer. Also, enable the USB debugging option on your tablet. Remember to root and install a custom recovery image on the same. Take note that without completing these operations you will not be able to update your Transformer to Jelly Bean via CM10.
You know everything about this update now, so my job for the moment it’s done. Go ahead and take a look over the steps from below. Then give it a try and see how things work. The steps are easy to follow but be careful you are doing everything as explained or else you can brick your tablet.
