Install GregKernel for Sony Xperia T LT30p and / or Sony Xperia TX LT29i

Flash GregKernel for SONY Xperia T and SONY Xperia TX

There aren’t too many custom ROMs for the Xperia T or Xperia TX devices, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t flash new customization elements for it. That is why you can install new kernels and other tools that will improve the overall performance of your device. Use this guide only if you’re an advanced Android user.

The ‘GregKernel’ has been created and released by GregBradley, an XDA forum member and developer. It is a rooted kernel that is based on the stock kernel software of the LT30p and LT29i, and it is a fast and smooth custom kernel that you can flash on your device. It comes packed with the CWM Recovery image for your device. The boot animation of your device will be changed to the XDA Developers forum logo from the default Sony one.

Remember that installing new custom kernels is always risky and you might end up bricking your device which is why you can’t blame us in case something goes wrong during the installation. The first version of GregKernel comes with an improved ‘bootsplash logo’ and it is based on the Stock kernel of LT30p device. Read the instructions listed below before moving to the installation part of this post.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Use this tutorial only with the Sony Xperia T LT30p and / or with the Sony Xperia LT29i. Don’t attempt to flash these files on any other different Android smartphone.
  • Your phone should be on an unlocked bootloader. If yours isn’t then you should use this guide here. The kernel is rooted and it will also install the CWM Recovery image (these are required when you will want to install new custom ROMs on your device).
  • Disable all running security applications so that neither one will interfere with the installation process.
  • Charge the battery of your smartphone until the battery power level is over 50%. That will prevent your device from powering off during the installation process.
  • Enable USB debugging option from your phone’s Android Developer Options.
  • The computer should have the Sony USB Drivers installed as without these you won’t be able to push the custom kernel on to your device.
  • You should backup all your important data by moving it on your computer or to the phone’s internal SDcard. It would be better to transfer it on your PC so that in case your phone gets bricked then you will be able to retrieve your data.
  • Also, sync your Contacts with your Gmail account so that you won’t lose any important phone numbers and contact details during the installation.
  • This is a guide for advanced Android users and you shouldn’t attempt to install a custom kernel in case you’re a novice.
  • Note that we cannot be blamed in case something goes wrong during the installation nor can be held responsible in case you brick the phone.
  • Read the entire post and make sure that you don’t skip any of the steps that I’ve listed below.

These were all the guidelines you had to go over before moving to the tutorial guide. Now you can get to the next part of this post and flash the new custom kernel using fastboot.

  7. Choose ‘install zip from SDcard’ and then ‘choose zip from SD card’. Find the ‘GregKernelv2.CWM.zip’ file and install it.
  8. Return to the main CWM recovery screen when the install is complete.
  9. Select ‘reboot system now’ and wait until the phone completes the restart process.
  10. That’s it, you’ve managed to complete the installation of a custom kernel on your device.

These were all the steps that you had to take in order to install GregKernel Custom kernel on your Sony Xperia T LT30p and Xperia TX LT29i.
