  • use this post only with the 2013 Nexus 7 Wi-Fi model with the codename set to ‘flo’.
    – don’t use this post for any other Android tablets or smartphones.
  • your tablet has to be rooted and running the latest CWM or TWRP Recovery image.
    – we’re not sure if TWRP will work, but you still need to update it to its latest version.
    – you’ll find instructions for both custom Recovery versions in the tutorial.
  • ‘factory reset’ is required for this new ROM to install correctly.
    – don’t skip this step, unless your device already uses a previous CM 11 Nightly official release.
    – factory reset wipes all data from system partition, while the internal storage won’t be affected by this process.
  • it is highly important that you create a full NANDROID ROM Backup for the OS that is currently installed on your device.
    – this restore point will allow you to repair your device in case the new ROM doesn’t boot in normal mode.
    – the step is listed in the tutorial and you shouldn’t skip it.
  • if you want to backup data from installed applications then you can use Helium — Google Play Store link here.
  • enable USB debugging from Developer Options menu.
  • check the device’s battery power level and make sure that it is over 50%, so that the tablet won’t switch off in the middle of the installation process.
  • read the entire post first, don’t skip any steps and you should be OK.
  • in case you cannot complete the tutorial, then you should ask for more help in comments.
  • do not blame us in case you brick the device or lose any important data in the process.

Now that you know all of the above, continue to the next part of this post and learn how to update your tablet.

I hope that you did manage to complete the installation of CyanogenMod 11 Nightly KitKat custom ROM on your Google Nexus 7 2013. If you encounter any problems when installing this ROM, then you should ask for more help in comments by making sure that you give a detailed report of all the actions you took until you got stuck.

NOTE: if the first boot process of CM 11 Nightly gets stuck at the CyanogenMod boot animation screen for more than ten minutes, or in case the tablet enters into a boot loop, then you will be forced to repeat the entire tutorial once again. If you decide to repeat the installation, then it would be best for you to read these guidelines:

  • do not skip the ‘wipe data/ factory reset’ step.
  • also, make sure to ‘format /system’ as well after ‘factory reset’.
  • try to flash the ROM without Gapps, then you need to reboot in Recovery and flash Gapps.
  • if you re-install the ROM, but not Gapps and the system boot normally, then you flash Gapps and the tablet doesn’t boot, then you will be forced to flash a different Gapps file. (info here)

I think that these are all the instructions that I had for you, now you’re free to test the new ROM.

In case you don’t like this new CM 11 Nightly ROM or your tablet struggles to run it smoothly, it shows one too many errors, then you should restore the device to its previous ROM.
