Install Unofficial CM 10.2 Android 4.3 Test Build ROM for the HTC One

An unofficial build of CM 10.2 is now available for the HTC One device. Use this tutorial and learn how to update it with a custom ROM that is based on the latest Android 4.3 OS and CyanogenMod’s latest project.

In order to make sure that you successfully update your device you need to read the guidelines below first. Also, for more info about this custom ROM you should take a look at this XDA thread here.

Here’s what you need to know before getting to the installation part of this post:

  • Use the tutorial only with the HTC One smartphone.
  • Your device has to run on an unlocked bootloader, it should be rooted and running a custom Recovery like CWM or TWRP.
  • In the tutorial guide you’ll find a step that asks you to factory reset the device, which is why you need to know that all contents stored on the system partition will be removed in the process.
  • The ‘factory reset’ action won’t remove the internal storage files. However, it would be best for you to create backups of all important files before starting the installation.
  • If you want to backup SMS, Call Logs info and APN Internet Settings then you should use these tools: SMS backup & restore | Call Logs backup & restore | APN Settings Backup & Restore. Root access has to be granted for some of these apps.
  • In order not to lose any saved phone numbers, sync your Contacts info with your Gmail account.
  • Enable USB Debugging from Developer Options menu.
  • Make sure that your device’s battery has enough power left before completely switching off.
  • This is a guide for advanced users and you shouldn’t blame us in case you lose data or you brick your smartphone in the process.
  • Read all the info I’ve listed in this post and make sure not to skip any steps.
  • If you cannot complete the install then you should ask for more help in comments and we will find a viable solution for you.

Since you’ve read all of the above, continue to the next part of this article and learn how to update your device with a brand new Jelly Bean 4.3 custom ROM.

How to update HTC One with Unofficial CM 10.2 Android 4.3 custom ROM test build:

  1. Download the CM 10.2 Unofficial ROM file from here.
  2. Download Gapps zip from here.
  3. Connect your smartphone with your PC and then move both zip files on the HTC One internal SDcard.
  4. After the files are copied you can disconnect the phone from computer.
  5. Power off the HTC One.
  6. Now boot it into HBOOT mode, then select the Recovery option.
    > wait for the device to boot into CWM / TWRP Recovery.
    > both CWM and TWRP are supported by this guide.
  7. First thing that you need to do is to create a NANDROID backup of your current ROM:
    > for CWM Recovery: select ‘backup and restore’ option. Confirm that you want to backup the system.
    > for TWRP Recovery: press Backup, select the system parts you want to backup, then confirm the process by sliding the blue button at the bottom of the screen.
    > this NANDROID Backup file can be used in case the new ROM doesn’t boot or you don’t like how it runs on your device. It can be restored using the same custom Recovery Mode, just make sure that you know where the backup file is located.
    > when the backup is complete you can return to the main custom recovery screen.
  8. Next, you need to apply the ‘factory reset’:
    > for CWM Recovery: select ‘wipe data/ factory reset’ and then confirm the process.
    > for TWRP Recovery: press Wipe, then Factory Reset. Confirm.
  9. Now you can flash the new CyanogenMod 10.2 Unofficial zip for your HTC One:
    > for CWM Recovery: select ‘install zip from sdcard’, then ‘choose zip from sdcard’. Find the CyanogenMod 10.2 zip file and confirm its installation.
    > for TWRP Recovery: press Install, then browse the internal SD card contents and load the CM 10.2 zip file. Confirm the install process by sliding the blue button that’s shown at the bottom of the HTC One screen.
  10. The installation process will take several minutes to complete. When the installation of the ROM is finished you need to repeat the actions listed in step 9 in order to flash the Gapps file too.
  11. After both the CM 10.2 ROM and Gapps files are installed with success, return to the main custom Recovery Mode menu.
  12. For CWM Recover select the ‘reboot system now’ option, while for TWRP Recovery you need to press Reboot, then System.
    > wait for the first boot process of the new ROM to complete. It shouldn’t take more than five minutes for it to load all the new Android 4.3 / CM 10.2 Unofficial ROM files.
  13. Take control over your smartphone by entering your Google Account info when asked.
  14. Test the new feature and functions, then tell us in comments if your device’s battery life and performance have improved after installation.

These were all the steps that you had to take in order to successfully update your HTC One smartphone with a custom and unofficial CM 10.2 ROM that is based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. If you didn’t manage to apply the installation with success, then you will need to repeat the entire tutorial. If you do repeat the guide, then you should make sure that you don’t skip any other steps in the process, as the ‘factory reset’ one is needed for the new ROM to boot into normal mode.

If you don’t like this new CM 10.2 Unofficial ROM or you’ve detected any major bugs then you can easily restore your smartphone to its previous OS using the NANDROID backup files created in step 7. Use the same Recovery Mode to restore your HTC One to its previous ROM. If you have any other questions, post them in comments below.
