Rumor has it that the folks at Samsung are currently readying a premium version of the Galaxy S5 flagship that will boast about an aluminium body. Unofficially dubbed Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, the handset is expected to compete against LG’s G3 which is also expected to arrive with metallic casing.
Even though Samsung’s Head of Mobile Communications JK Shin officially denied the existence of a premium Galaxy S5 variant, the rumors about the alleged Galaxy S5 Prime continue to surface online. The latest comes from reddit where user /u/open1your1eyes0 claims to have gotten the above photo from an anonymous tipster.
According to the rumor mill, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime will be released next summer and it will aim to compete against the likes of LG G3 and steal some of the potential iPhone 6 users. According to the reports the handset will pack a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED screen with 2560 x 1440 resolution, a quad-core 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 16 MP primary camera, and a 3,000 mAh battery.
Before getting your hopes to high about this being a spy shot of the real Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, please hit the following link. We have used the same photo for an April Fools article about a month ago. It looks like someone took the photo, darkened it, and posted on reddit.
Even though the above photo is obviously a hoax, the Galaxy S5 Prime might actually exist, even though Shin said the Korean phone maker isn’t working on a premium variant of their current flagship. He had this approach either because he wanted not to hurt S5’s sales (may would have probably waited for the S5 Prime) or because the premium model would not be related to the S5. Rumor has it that Samsung is planning to create a whole new family of premium smartphones called Galaxy F.
