Jolla Smartphone: Technical Specs and Price
After Nokia has been acquired by Microsoft, another Finland-based phone maker wants to become a big name of the industry. Jolla wants to develop a smartphone based on a new operating system, Sailfish OS, which will be capable of running Android applications.
Not long ago, Jolla has revealed the smartphone’s technical specifications, as far as it goes, it won’t be a rival for the high-end Android smartphones. Even though its chipset is quite fast, the display is rather appropriate for a low-end smartphone.
Besides running the MeeGo-based Sailfish OS, the Jolla smartphone will boast about a 4.5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels and Gorilla Glass 2 protection, while packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset with dual-core 1.4 GHz CPU.
The handset will also come with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, expandable using microSD cards. On the back we will find an 8 MP camera with autofocus and LED flash, while the front-facing shutter will have a 2 MP sensor. In terms of connectivity, the Jolla smartphone will come with WiFi 802.11b/g/n, LTE, NFC, and GLONASS.
According to the same list of specs, the device will be 131 mm tall, 68 mm wide, 9.9 mm thin, will have a weight of 141 grams and a 2,100 mAh battery.
Unfortunately, the global pre-orders for the smartphone are over. Only the Finns can still pre-order their Jolla units for €100. The smartphone will have a final price of €400, which is acceptable judging by the specs list.
All we can do now is wait and see how popular the terminal will become, given that it will not have access to Google Play. If the users will have to install their apps from untrusted sources, they will most likely be exposed to security breaches.
The Jolla smartphone should become available for purchase on the Finn’s official website by the end of the year.
