LG G Watch Release Date, Specs, and Price Leaked Online

Back in March, the folks at Google officially announced Android Wear, an operating system designed for smartwatches and other wearables. Soon after, LG announced they will be bringing their own Android Wear-powered smartwatch called, the G Watch. Until now, we knew that the LG G Watch is coming, but we had no idea of its release date, specs, or price.

Well, the LG G Watch release date, specs, and price leaked online courtesy of MoDaCo and @upleaks. According to the two aforementioned sources the new Android Wear-powered smartwatch will feature a 1.6-inch screen with a resolution of 280 x 280, lower than Galaxy Gear 2’s screen. The leaks also reveal that the LG G Watch will be underpinned by a Qualcomm APQ8026 processor, which is the same unit powering Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, a quad-core 1.2 GHz unit for the latter device.

The LG G Watch technical specifications list also include 4 GB of memory. It’s not mentioned how much of it is RAM and how much is storage, but we believe that the former one will be 512 MB. Connectivity-wise, the new LG smartwatch will have Bluetooth 4.0, which is everything you need given that it connects to your Android smartwatch or tablet and mirrors its notifications.

Unlike Samsung’s Gear 2 smartwatch, the LG G Watch doesn’t seem to integrate a camera unit, so you won’t be able to capture photos or videos Bond-style. As for the built-in sensors, the Android Wear device will pack tilt, gyro, and pedometer. Anyway, most of LG G Watch’s software features will be provided by Android Wear. It’s also worth noting that there’s no mention for playing music, so you might not be able to use the smartwatch as a standalone music player. As for the 400 mAh battery keeping the device alive, it is listed as being capable of providing 36 hours of standby time.

According to MoDaCo, the LG G Watch release date has been set for July 7 on the UK market. This is about a week after Google I/O, where the smartwatch is expected to be officially introduced to the public. The same source also reveals that the G Watch will cost ?169.99 in the UK, a price that coincides with the one of the Samsung Gear 2 Neo.
