The South Korean phone maker confirmed through SFR that the LG Optimus G Android 4.4.2 KitKat update will be pushed to the owners this summer.
As you may know, the Optimus G is still running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, therefore it will skip both Android 4.2 and Android 4.3, as it will be upgraded directly to Android 4.4 KitKat.
Neither SFT nor LG revealed any information about the changes brought by the Android 4.4 update for LG Optimus G, but you should expect most of the goodies the KitKat brings to LG G2. Therefore you’ll most likely get major UI improvements, Knock On unlock, and the usual KitKat treats such as transparent status and nav bars, emoji support, full-screen immersive mode, white iconography for the status bar, Quick Settings, Project Butter, cloud printing and many other such features.
Even though it’s not mentioned in the press release, the LG Optimus G Android 4.4 update will surely be rolled out in phases, meaning that the ETA varies by country and carrier. As you may know, once the update is ready for your device you will receive a notification message. Alternatively, you will be able to grab the update through a manual check under Settings > About phone > System update > Check for updates. Anyway, don’t do it yet, because the summer is more than two months away. Furthermore, LG didn’t mention whether it’s early summer, mid-summer, or late summer, so the waiting could be even longer.
Are you still running Android 4.1 on your Optimus G, or did you already installed KitKat on your device via custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod, AOKP, or Paranoid Android?
