LG Optimus G Pro Launch Date In US Set For May 1

Last week, LG sent out invitations to a mobile event that will be held on May 1, but the company didn’t mention what is was all about. Now, the South Korean manufacturer has confirmed that the press even that will take place in New York City will be about the unveiling of the LG Optimus G Pro in the United States market.

There is no doubt that such large smartphones are very appealing for some customers, and the segment is seriously dominated by Samsung’s Galaxy Note line. The first time when LG has attempted to rival Samsung’s supremacy was when the company released the Optimus G Pro. The device was meant to compete with the Galaxy Note 2. According to the company, the LG Optimus G Pro will be available for purchase in the US soon after its unveiling vent on May 1.

The international variant of the Optimus G Pro has been already released in Europe and South Korea, and it features a 5.5-inch full HD display with a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080. It sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 13 MP primary camera located on the back of the phone, and a 3140 mAh battery. The LG flagship comes running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean right out of the box, but we expect that it will be further updated in the future.

Of course, the US version of the LG Optimus G Pro will basically have the same specs, except for the radios, which will be different.

The device is very popular in the South Korean market, where the company has managed to sell more than 500k units since it was launched 40 days ago. This is a big improvement for LG if we compare the current flagship with its predecessor, which has reached the 1 million sold units milestone after four months. If the trend will continue, the Optimus G Pro will have no problem in beating that.

Now, we expect that LG will also provide details about when exactly will the smartphone will be available for purchase and how much it will cost. We’ll tell you as well, as soon as the information becomes available, so stick around!
