The South Korean company is getting ready to host an event on May 30th and the LG Optimus G2 might be one of the smartphones unveiled at the aforementioned event. It is not the first time when details about the LG Optimus G2 are hitting the web, as less than a month rumors were saying that the new flagship smartphone of the South Korean brand will be so thin that the volume rocker will be on its back.
Today we get to see a new LG Optimus G2 leaked photo, which is revealing that the terminal that will most likely underpin the Nexus 5 will sport an edge-to-edge display. And it’s not like the one of the Motorola RAZR i, which has an edge-to-edge display only on paper, as the Optimus G2 almost has no bezel around the display.
As usual, the folks at @evleaks are behind the LG Optimus G2 leak, thus we should be pretty confident that the device is the real deal.
Even though there are rumors saying it that the device we are looking at is actually the next-gen Nexus 5, which, just like its predecessor will also be manufactured by LG, the LG Optimus G2 is more plausible.
According to the rumor mill, the LG Optimus G2 will be powered by a Snapdragon 800 chipset with four Krait 400 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and that it will sport a 5-inch full HD display. Even though there are voices saying that the Google I/O event, that will open its gates for the public on March 15th, will bring us the next-gen Nexus smartphone, my opinion is that we won’t see the Nexus 5 in flash at the San Francisco-based event.
My guess is that Google I/O will only mark the debut of Android 4.3.3 Jelly Bean and next-gen Nexus 7, as the Mountain View-based company will keep all the goodies like Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, Nexus 5 and Nexus 11 for October, when Android will celebrate its 5th birthday. This move will give more time for LG to develop the Optimus G2 and Nexus 5 and the first one will be most likely announced at IFA Berlin 2013 in early September.
