Even though the next-gen flagship of the South Korea-based phone maker is just a rumor now, the upcoming LG Optimus G2 is starting to make the headlines again. The reputed CNet publication has published yesterday new technical specifications and a possible time frame for the LG Optimus G2 release date.
Therefore, the LG Optimus G2 release date might be this fall, about a year later after the current model. The current trend in the smartphone business is about using bigger displays with full HD resolutions, therefore the journalists at CNet inform that Optimus G2 will most likely arrive with a 5-inch display, with 1080p resolution.
As long as LG didn’t unveiled any smartphones at CES 2013 earlier this month, we can expect the South Koreans to unveil the first Optimus G2 details next month, at Mobile World Congress event that will take place in Barcelona.
Still, other sources are claiming that LG might also launch an intermediary smartphone, based on the current Optimus G. The rumored LG Optimus GK might be the company’s attempt to compete against Samsung in high-end segment, a smartphone equipped with a 5.5-inch display, latest-gen quad-core chipset, and running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.
Another reason why LG might delay the announcement of the Optimus G successor is the company’s desire to have one of the first smartphones running on Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, the new version prepared by Google for the second half of the year.
