Moto X Android 4.4.4 OTA Update Now Rolling out at Sprint

Motorola did a good job when it came to¬†keeping their popular smartphones up to date with the latest Android updates. Now it’s Moto X’s turn to receive the Android 4.4.4 update at Sprint, after it received the Android 4.4.3 update back in June. Therefore, if you happen to own a Sprint Moto X, you should keep an eye on the notifications bar.

As usual, the new software update is being rolled out in phases, therefore some of you might not be able to download and install it right away. For what it’s worth, Sprint is not the last major US carrier to roll out the Moto X Android 4.4.4 OTA update, as AT&T is still soak testing the new firmware.

You probably know already that once your Moto X becomes eligible to receive the Android 4.4.4 update you will get a system update message in the notifications drawer. Select “Download,” after the software is downloaded tap “Install Now.” In case the said notification failed to show up, you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now. It’s also worth noting that the new firmware has build number 212.44.28 and that the update file might exceed a couple hundred MB, therefore it’s recommended to use a stable WiFi network to avoid unwanted data charges.

Because the usual KitKat goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, white status bar icons, cloud printing, immersive mode, new Location menu, color emoji support, or full screen album and movie art in the lock screen were patched in the previous Android 4.4.x updates for Moto X, the new software update is about bringing bug fixes and numerous other enhancements. According to the changelog posted on Motorola’s website, the new Sprint Moto X Android 4.4.4 OTA update brings stability improvements, improved image quality (better consistency of exposure, more realistic flash coloring,¬†improved photos in low light conditions using front camera), the ability to pause video recording (you should be able to see a pause/resume button on the viewfinder), update phone dialer with card-based interface and new color scheme, and enables Motorola Alert application download.

Are there any Sprint Moto X owners among you? Have you received the Android 4.4.4 update on your devices? Please let your fellow Moto X owners know in the comments section below.
