Motorola Confirms Android Oreo Update for the Moto G4 Plus

Motorola had released a list of devices eligible to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update a few days back. The list did not include the Moto G4 Plus, which shocked everyone as Motorola had previously promised that the smartphone would be updated to Android 8.0. In an official statement sent to Android Police, Motorola has confirmed that it will be rolling out the Android O update for the Moto G4 Plus in order to keep its word.

“It’s been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for Moto G4 Plus. This was an oversight on our part and we apologize for this miscommunication. It’s our general practice for the Moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device, but it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading Moto G4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit it into our upgrade schedule. Watch our software upgrade page for more information.”

With the Oreo update now confirmed for the Moto G4 Plus, here is the updated list of Motorola smartphones that will be receiving the Android update:

  • Moto Z
  • Moto Z Droid
  • Moto Z Play
  • Moto Z Play Droid
  • Moto Z2 Play
  • Moto Z2 Force Edition
  • Moto X4
  • Moto G5 Plus
  • Moto G5
  • Moto G5S Plus
  • Moto G5S
  • Moto G4 Plus

Motorola hasn’t shared specific release dates yet, but it did say that the update will begin rolling out this fall. The company has usually been very quick with rolling out major Android updates in the past, so we are pretty positive that things will not be any different this time around. That means most Motorola smartphones in the above list are likely to be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo before the end of the year. The Oreo update will bring along faster performance, improved battery life, split-screen multitasking, smart text selection, improved notifications, autofill framework, new Google Play Protect, and more.
